William W. Wardley, 80, of St. Paris, OH passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021 in his residence. Bill was born on August 29, 1940 in Islip, Long Island, NY, the son of the late Walter and Jean (Ayers) Wardley.
He married his wife of 56 years, Clara Alvarez Miranda on January 16, 1965. Together they raised four children: Yvonne (Butch) Whetstone, Tammy (Mark) George, Leanne Hayslip (Jason Voorhees), and Daniel (Mandy) Wardley. He was a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren: Vanessa (Logan) Karl, Matthew Whetstone, Krissy (Michael) Criner, Daniel Hayslip, Jeremy Hayslip, Adam George, Alysia George, Daniel Wardley, Jr., and Madalyn Wardley; and four great grandchildren: Myleigh, Joleigh, and Nataleigh Karl and Liam Criner.
Bill is also survived by a brother Walter (Mary Jane) Wardley, a niece Lisa (Rob) Allen and a nephew, Michael (Kelly) Wardley.
Bill was a 1958 graduate of Sayville High School in Long Island, and a 1965 graduate of The University of Miami (Florida) with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Grumman Corporation of Bethpage, Long Island, NY where he worked on the Lunar Excursion Module as well as the F-14A Tom Cat fighter jet. He moved with his family to St. Paris, OH in 1972 where he was employed by B. F. Goodrich, Troy, OH. He held several positions there and later retired from the St. Paris Water Plant.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, horses, tending his roses, classic cars and the Champaign Cruisers, woodworking and carving and smoking his pipe. He also enjoyed his time on the St. Paris planning commission. He followed his Irish heritage through ancestry, enjoyed music and attending festivals. He was a die-hard University of Miami football fan.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St, St. Paris, Ohio with Pastor Jeremy Spence of the First Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, N. Heck Hill Road, St. Paris. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
