Joseph P. DeWeese, age 89, of Sidney passed away at 10:26 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 in Dorothy Love, Sidney, OH.
Born on August 22, 1932 in Piqua, OH, Joe was a son of the late Robert G and Theda Irene (Jennings) DeWeese.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, the former Mary Ann Zerkle, whom he married on February 28, 1957. He is also survived by three children and their spouses: Michael and Nancy Rucker of Anna, OH, Angie Sue and Tom Cisco of Port Orange, FL, and Abby Lynn and Bill Simpkins of Ruskin, FL. He was a loving and proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A daughter, Amy Jo Roller, granddaughter Emma A Simpkins, daughter-in-law, Donna Rucker, a sister Marilyn King, brothers Royal DeWeese, Bobby Boyd DeWeese and Steven Jennings DeWeese, preceded Joe in death.
Joe was a 1952 graduate of St. Paris High School, St. Paris, OH. He received two associate degrees, one in 1966 from Kent State, and one from the University of Wisconsin in 1972. He also served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was a member of Legion Post # 217, of Sidney, OH. Joe started his working career at the local bank in Christiansburg, OH. He served U.S. Bank in Sidney, OH for 30 years and also spent 12 years as the Shelby County Auditor.
Joe was a member of the Connection Point First Church of God in Sidney, Ohio. He was a member of Stokes Masonic Lodge # 305 of Port Jefferson, OH, and a Valley of Dayton 32nd Degree Mason. He was the main organizer of the Shelby County Draft Horse Organization and served on the Shelby County Mounted Posse for 25 years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. in the Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road, Sidney, Ohio 45365 and one hour prior to the funeral services on Friday, February 25, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am. Funeral services will start at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Brian Newell and Mark Kaufman presiding. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery with military honors.
