Joe Ford, of Rosewood, while in the presence of his family, passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Wilson Health in Sidney, Ohio. He was born on December 21, 1932 to William and Audrey Ford and was 88 years old. His given name was ’Billy Joe’. He was known to his family as ’Dad’ and his friends as ’Joe’. He was a lifelong resident of Rosewood.
He will forever be missed by his family, community, customers, fellow fire fighters, brothers and sisters in Christ, and all others whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Jane. Schoolmates for 12 years, married on March 24, 1952, they were marriage partners for 69 years.
He was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Rosewood High School. After high school, he was the Service Manager for Ford’s Chevrolet Sales until his father, the owner, retired in the early 1960s. In 1963 he became the owner and the name was changed to Ford’s Garage. In 1971 the business moved to its present location on Archer Street.
He was an ordained Christian minister in the State of Ohio and most recently served as an Elder with Renewed Strength Church overseeing the ministry of prayer. He supported many evangelists and missionaries, both nationally and internationally. He led teams on missionary trips to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to help with Grace International and their local church and orphanage.
He served as Assistant Fire Chief for the Rosewood Fire Department, and was promoted to Chief in the early 1960s. He served in that office until 2015. He was an EMT on the Rosewood EMS Squad for 12 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Russell, Jane Ache, half brother Don Stanley, and granddaughter Melinda Blanton.
A beloved father, Joe is also survived by his son Danny (Patti) Ford of Rose wood, son Timothy (Fookloy) Ford of Boca Raton, Florida, daughter Rebecca (Michael) Wigginton of Indianapolis, Indiana, and son Steve (Debbie) Ford of Rosewood.
Joe was a respected role model to his grandchildren: Melinda (Jim) Blanton, Richard (Misty) Ford, William (Emily) Ford, Maria (Marshall) Eubanks, Dave Ford, Anthony (Taylor) Ford, Patrick Ford, Elizabeth Ford, Corey Ford, Ben Ford, Luci Ford, Julius Ford, Rashonda Ford, Romain Ford, Franklin Ford, Audrey (Scott) Blewer, Andrew Ford, Rachel Wigginton, Peter (Delicia) Wigginton, Hannah Wigginton, Caleb (Charity) Ford, Amos (Amy) Ford, Anna (Donald) Thompson, Abigail (Adam) Payton, Tom (Renee) Webster, Ken Webster.
Joe was a proud great-grandfather to: Andrew, Taylor, Aiden, Tori, Jeffrey, Ria, Daniel, Jared, Aliyah, Ariana, Aria, Sofia, Emery, Joseph, Toby, and Gus. He was dear to his family and they were dear to him. He thrived on serving his community, church, customers, orphans, widows, countless ministries and missionaries who have taken the gospel of Jesus Christ all over the world. He had a true servant’s heart.
An Evening of Visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield St., Saint Paris, Ohio.
A Celebration Service for Joe’s life will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Renewed Strength Church, 4194 US Route 36, Westville, Ohio with Reverend Mark Hackworth presiding. A Burial Service will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, North State Route 235, Rosewood, Ohio.
