Jerry Kite Carlson, age 79, of Springfield, OH and formerly of St. Paris, OH, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, January 20, 2022, at the Springfield Masonic Home.
Born on March 3, 1942 in Piqua, OH, Jerry was a son of the late Donald K Carlson and the late Emma Lou (Kite) Rust.
Jerry is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James M. “Jamie” and Tamaria Carlson of Plain City, Ohio, two grandsons, James M. “Jimi" Carlson, Jr. and wife Tori of Hilliard, OH and Patrick M. Carlson of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by a half brother, David (Mercedes) Carlson of Miami Beach, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles D. “Charlie” Rust and his ex-wife, Sharon.
Jerry was a graduate of Graham High School, St. Paris, Ohio, and Ohio University in Athens, OH where he earned a BS in Industrial Management. He was a lifelong member of the St. Paris United Methodist Church and the former owner of St. Paris Oil Company. Jerry was a life member of the St. Paris Lion’s Club. One of his greatest joys and memories is collecting tickets at the Annual Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast and teasing people in the line.
Jerry loved Freemasonry and the men and women that were connected to him over the years through the fraternity. He was a fifty-year member of Harmony Lodge #8 Free & Accepted Masons, Urbana Chapter #34 Royal Arch Masons, Urbana Council #59 Royal & Select Masons, and Caroline Chapter #39 Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of Raper Commandery #19 Knights Templar, Ohio Priory #18 Knight of the York Cross of Honor, and a 32-degree Mason in the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite,
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Julie Fairchild of the St. Paris United Methodist Church presiding. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, N. High Street, St. Paris, Ohio. There will be visitation for family and friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, with Eastern Star and Masonic services to follow.
