William "Bill" Andrew Barnes

February 6, 1924 ~ September 9, 2012 (age 88)

William Andrew Bill Barnes, age 88, of Fletcher, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 (also known as Grandparents Day) in the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. Born on February 6, 1924, he is survived by two children: his son, Ron Barnes and his daughter, Becky Cook. He is also survived by grandsons, Edward Ulsh and Robert Ulsh, a granddaughter and her husband, Tammy and Jacob OToole and his dog Princess. Bill was also blessed to have five great grandchildren: Reagan Ulsh, Aleigha Ulsh, Arielle Barnes, Lauren Barnes and Elliot Barnes. He also has another great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen (Plack) Barnes, his wife Roberta (Zupp) Barnes, and great grandson, Dallas Star OToole. Bill was a member of the United States Army Air Corp where he served as a fighter pilot during WWII. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company. During retirement he was the caretaker at the village of Fletcher cemetery. He was a member of American Legion Post 184, Piqua and AMVETS Post 88, Troy. He enjoyed bead work, plastic canvas crafting, NASCAR and photography. He has been a little league coach, boy scout leader, and supporter of the school band programs. He took pride in having his family surrounding him, playing games, and caring for his late wife Roberta until she went to walk with Jesus. Viewing will be held at the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main Street, Fletcher, on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
