Thomas “Tom” E. Armstrong, age 90, of Terre Haute (Urbana) Ohio passed away at 12:33 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019 in Springfield Regional Hospital. Born on February 2, 1929, in Champaign County, OH, Tom was a son of the late William Oscar and Orma (Wagner) Armstrong. He married Louise Nitchman on May 18, 1947 and she preceded him on April 10, 2019. He is survived by two daughters: Sharon Runkle of Terre Haute and Pam (Bryan) Kizer of Urbana, Ohio and four grandchildren; Chad (Michelle) Runkle, Carrie Taylor, Braden (Lizzy) Kizer and Brett (Natalie) Kizer; eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by five siblings: Ella Knull, Helen Boring, Eloise Shaffer, Betty Thornton, and Charles Armstrong. Tom was a member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Portsmouth. He retired from the Champion Company in Springfield, OH. He was a member of VFW Post 5451, and Harmony Lodge No. 8, Free and Accepted Masons, both of Urbana and the Springfield Antioch Shrine club where he was part of the Field Music core. He enjoyed gardening and especially growing roses. He and his wife Louise were members of the Clark County Rose Society for many years. They won numerous awards for their beautiful roses. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in the Terre Haute United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Lehman presiding. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery with military honors.
