Earl Howard Kessler

June 12, 1936 ~ September 19, 2018 (age 82)


Earl H. Kessler, 82, of Urbana, Ohio moved into eternal life to be with our Heavenly Father and to join his wife Janet on September 19, 2018. Earl was born in St. Paris, Ohio on June 12, 1936. He attended St. Paris School and also Concord Local. After school he joined the Untied States Marine Corp at seventeen years of age. He earned the rank of sergeant during his six years of service. He was honorably discharged because of a medical condition. Earl went on to attend several welding schools and also earned his G.E.D. He worked for General Motors in Dayton, Ohio as a maintenance welder, and then moved to Swanton, Ohio to continue his work for General Motors as a maintenance welder in Toledo, Ohio where he retired after 26 years of honorable service. He married Janet Apple of St. Paris on June 3, 1976 and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2009 after 33 years of marriage. Surviving Earl are five children; Earl Douglas (Tami) Kessler, Vicki Pitts, Jeffery (Mary) Cornell, Kimberly (Mark Schetter) Ferrell and Michael Cornell; three sisters, Joyce Evilsizor, Barbara Kessler, Judy (Andy) Padolic; one brother, Richard (Denise) Kessler and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, his father, Earl H. Kessler, Sr., his mother, Trudy (Sanders) Kessler and a brother, Leonard Kessler, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio with Reverend Chris Livingston of the Renewed Strength Church presiding. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Saint Paris, Ohio with military services by the V.E.T.S. of Piqua. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the funeral service on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m in the funeral home.
